Cool or what?

To lead on from my previous post on fencing you need quite a few safety things to keep everyone happy. (And yeah I suppose it makes us look like professionals, oh wait, that's what we're meant to be...)

So back in the day on the good old dairy farms where we did all of our fencing, we'd just be out there in the summer clothes in the middle of summer, between stock movements or milking and trying to get a new fenceline up over a few days. The tractor driver would have earmuffs, and whoever operated the post banger would have them too cos that monkey hitting the mark is jolly loud.

These days when we're fencing in all sorts of conditions; dairy farms, lifestyle blocks, sheep/beef, residential fencing, because we try to make ourselves look 'professional' and because of all the safety requirements as of late, we have to stick to a few guns. So, bright yellow/green high-viz vests, earmuffs for everyone around the tractor, and Dad has a hard hat while working with the post banger. Work boots for the guys, as they're always tramping around on all sorts of ground, gloves to protect your hands, sunnies or safety glasses when dealing with wire or staple guns. We've always stuck to the good old chaps and such for chainsaw use, so that hasn't changed at all.

Me, I'm finding it a little odd, walking around in a bright yellow vest, although it is good to hold things. Then using my brothers' tool belt (and annoying him by continually tightening it hehe). As of late I've been scrambling around in my good old skellerup gumboots. Not much to them apart from the steel-cap toe.
But, as of today I've moved up in the world! What do you think, aren't they awesome?!

  1. Ummm, okaaa-aaay...
They look interesting. Nice colour, but you'd never find anything like that round Gizzy... :P
Must be fun working in those situations those, here, I have steel caps simply because I find them more comfortable, but other than that... :P

    1. Haha, dissing the boots? Me? Never! I just wouldn't be seen dead in them, that's all... :P
They do actually look kinda cute though. Who made them? They almost look Gri Sport quality, but I'm pretty sure they only do brown, brown, and brown. Occasionally with black fabric.

    2. Lol, they are pretty cool.Cute? Definitely, haha I chucked the picture on FB and heaps of girls I know now want a pair - funny what you can start.
Thought my feet would love me for them, but honestly after half a day today I'm covered in blisters...thinking they need more time to stretch and wear in a bit... o.O They're "steel blue" boots from protector safety, so they should be pretty good quality :)

    3. Lol, note how few boys on fb are lining up... :P
Yeah, that's likely with new boots, but once they do stretch and wear, they become pretty reliable.
Never heard of them, actually. But Gizzy, that's only got John Bull, Bunderstone or something, Trooper and Grisport, I've never seen anything other than that... Oh, and they did have No 8 for awhile, the best quality I've ever seen, but I haven't seen them for awhile.

PS Where's all the others from the bloggersphere gone? It's seeming kinda quiet... :P

    4. oh yeah, they sure are! :P
Yeah we have John Bull around here, that was my other option...

Hmm, I was thinking the same thing actaully...

    5. Really? Rural or townie? :P

Yeah, John Bulls aren't too bad, but I've found the seams come undone far too easily, I didn't even get a year out of them. Twice. So I decided to try another brand. That Blundstone was the same, actually. Gri Sport has a different style of putting the leather on, so the seams that normally come undone aren't actually there. I see that's the same with your boots too, the toe is just one piece of leather. Better that way.

    6. Haha it was a joke :P

Yeah you seem to get those sorts of issues with some brands, can be a bit of a pain. Hmm that's the good thing with mine. Apart from currently having swelling around my archilles from yesterday's effort, they're quite good.

    7. Oh right... :P

I give you another quote from the movie of whom you can't remember the main character's name... "My shoes were a little too big anyway, swelling will help them fit better." :P Hehe, anyway... :P You've only had them, what, 3 days? Give them a bit more time yet... :P

    8. I honestly believe that you filling that head of yours with movie quotes - from THAT particular movie, seems like such a waste :P

    9. It is, I know. A total waste. But I never tried, I just saw them, and they stuck. Do you never get that?

    10. Oh I have the pains of remembering conversations, years later, in high detail. The quotes can be used in better ways :P Lucky we're not computers otherwise we'd be requiring quite a few USB chips :D

    11. Lol, did you know our bodies do more calculations every second than a household computer does in it's entire life? (I also have a problem with remembering random useless facts... :P)
