News. Paper. Death?

I'm trying, desperately trying to decide what I can write that might be of some interest. It's sort of like a craving for me, writing, and whenever I get it or get an idea I just have to stop and do it. I guess it sort of sends my mind into a bit of a spin, with the need to transfer information onto paper - so to speak. And then when I get the chance to write, I literally can't stop. My fingers gliding over the keyboard almost mechanically, trying to capture and convey thoughts. So many thoughts...Like now, except now I'm kinda rambling for want of a decent subject.

What is there to actually talk about? There are so many things going on in New Zealand and the rest of the world. Everyone should surely know about most of these things. You see them all over the News, hear them on the radio or read them on the front page of The Herald and Facebook. So much is happening, that I'm surprised that it hasn't got the earth in a spin...if it wasn't already that is!
But you see and hear about so many things these days, drama over here, death threats there, then everything to do with the Royal Baby. Then you've got the local things, such as the Kiwi Dollar changing, issues with the GDT, housing prices skyrocketing and a politician suffering the wrath from what a family member has done.

It's madness, it's as if this world craves News (overall, gossip) in a way similar to my need to write. Good news. Bad news. Opinion and futuristic, it's here, it's there. It's jolly well everywhere, and the world can't survive without it. What else would we talk about, if it wasn't there to inform us?

Take the Duchess of Cambridge, as an example. The whole world knew as soon as she was pregnant, then the gossip mills crashed open, (not that they ever shut down), like the tsunami taking over Japan. Perhaps you could've thought that it went quiet for a while there, but no, pockets of information being passed through newspapers and magazines kept the ball rolling - whether the information itself was actually true or not - who knows? Low and behold she went into labour and the world went into yet another frenzy, as if nobody actually expected her to have the said baby. It may has well have been a rare occurrence?!
Every second thing I read, anywhere on the internet, "Kate this..." "Kate that..." "Is it a girl or a boy?"

Things have gotten to the stage where you can buy two or three different magazines, or in my case, receive three or four farming papers in the mail (on the same day), and they'll all have the same information, but just worded differently. My question is, why?

So many people study journalism of some sort, with the intention of getting the best job out there, in whatever field they prefer. Yet, there are no jobs available, because there are too many journalists.  You see it on TV, 10 or more people with their recording devices and camera crews, desperately trying to get to the information and then they'll all go away as individuals and give the public the same thing. There are endless magazines on sale, many just filled with gossip, but yet again, they all may as well be identical, almost cover to cover.

It's pathetic that the world is surviving on this News and gossip, where everyone quite happily pays money for it; yet we're cutting down the trees that we actually need to survive in want of something we can hear of and read ten times over, from different sources.

It's like we're killing ourselves, to live. Hello?!

Yes I go by the knowledge that the final hazard of life, is death.  But with everything that's going on in today's world, we may has well just cut ourselves up now and get it over and done with.

I guess it's just as well we don't need to make knives out of paper...

  1. And fair enough, some journalists can be right pains (this coming from a hopeful future journalist???). You know the origin of the word paparazzi means 'buzzing insects'? Namely mosquitoes. And too right! Some journalists are complete parasites, sucking the life out of those poor celebrities...

  2. Also, whilst we mightn't make knives out of paper, we do make furniture out of cardboard (my cousin and home economics teacher are totally into cardboard furniture, which doesn't personally float my boat).

  3. Lol, they can be totally into cardboard furniture. But I'll stick with you in your boat!

    2. Cardboard furniture, don't get me started. You two can be *insert-word* thankful that you didn't do Graphics and Design, we spent one whole year designing cardboard furniture... -_- So if you two are in a boat, I am definitely in the Captain's quarters... :P
Hey, just with the trees, pines are the main ones used for paper, and they only actually help for the first 20 years. After that, they're really just sitting there, for all the good they do, and after about 60 or so years, they then do more harm than good... But anyway, that is no excuse for the media, they are still nuts. Especially since they spend so much time reporting nonsense, and not enough reporting what might actually be slightly important to know... For instance, National Radio last night: 10 Minutes talking about a pony tail, 15 talking about a baby, another 5 on a pony tail, then in the last 5 minutes of the segment, they quickly cram the rest of the news... And don't get me started on the actual reporters and announcers themselves... :P

    6. Hmmm... Well, not necesarily a sail-boat, but I did do an awesome job on the Ernest Kemp on Lake Taupo... Only trouble is, it didn't have a captain's quarters. But okay okay, Just make sure it is a ship with a mast, and I bagses the crow's nest.

    8. haha, I love heights, the Crow's nest will be fun alright. And it means that if we get in a storm, it should be much more entertaining... :P
Haha, also, the Recaptcha service on these comments, when I posted the below comment, it showed my 10 images and asked me to select all the bread... :P

    10. Oh, it does? I know it used to be "prove you're not a robot. Type out this sentence" but Jenna's blog doesn't do it anymore, and Bianca's doesn't either. But pictures now, huh, that's interesting :P

    11. Also, too bad if you didn't know what Sushi was aye? lol

    12. Yeah. I disabled my "Prove you're not a robot". I got sick of having to enter words in every time I wanted to comment on my own blog...

    13. Yeah, when I arrived it was a type out the numbers, then it was just click the tick, and now it is pictures... It does give one picture of what sushi looks like, but I mustn't have done it right, as I failed it, so it gave me some pictures of bread again... Because, believe it or not, I don't really know what sushi is... Asian dish involving fish and rice isn't it? I've only ever heard of it... :P

    14. Okay, that time it was ice cream... :P

    15. Hmm, that's funny Xj, as I never had to do it for my own blog. I probably wouldn't know where to find all the comments setting, and it's amusing to think you two have to select certain photos to be able to comment, so I think I'll leave it set up. Haha Yep, sushi is wrapped in this green seaweed stuff. Generally filled with rice and raw fish. Although apparently they're made with chicken at times too. Not too keen on it though...

    16. Haha, yeah, it is kinda funny... So quick question, does mine have anything like that? Being moderator, I never worry about that... :P
Haha, okay, yeah, I thought it was something like that, but never actually tried it... :P Didn't know about the chicken though... :P

Come on, give me some chocolate to identify. I can find two pictures of chocolate. Although bread definitely seems the most common. Whats most common for you Xj?

    17. Andrew, do you have a blog?

I know how to sail, so I'll come too ... I haven't had much experience with cardboard furniture though, so I don't know if I hate it or not...

    18. Actually. I don't get anything...

    19. I don't have to type anything in or select anything when I comment here; are you guys doing it through your Google account or Name/Anon or ? Sounds interesting lol!

      Delete
    20. Must just be cos Andrew is going through anon

      Delete
    21. Yep, I'm name/URL. I don't actually have a Google Account, so... I could try through my Wordpress account, but that is under a different name so would really confuse matters... I could use it though if you guys want, to avoid the Andrew H/Andrew J confusion...

David... Hehe, I can just imagine Kayger's reaction when she approved that comment. Answer, yes, I have a blog. It is about 3 days old... :P https://highcountryview.wordpress.com/ if you did want to follow it...

Hmmm, never had cardboard furniture? Aren't you near a Cardboard Cathedral???
Umm, let's just say, you'd hate it. The idea is "recycling", but in reality it's worse for the environment than just turning it into landfill, because of all the processing and such...

      Delete
    22. Being near a Cardboard Cathedral doesn't mean that I've actually ever gone inside it...

      Delete
    23. Haha, I don't blame you, tbh... Why was it so important to build that and not people's houses?
Anyway, that probably has cardboard furniture inside it, if you want to see it...

  4. Wait. You guys still watch/listen to the "news"?! haha :P

    1. Yep, still watch the news most nights if I'm home in time for it, same with mum and dad, it's a general consensus lol. And I get to listen to it twice or three times on the hour/half hour on my way to milking, during milking and on the way home again. Lol

    2. Lol. We don't even a have a TV anymore :P And I don't bother with the radio haha (never could get it to work!) But Dad checks the news online so we usually here if someone dies, or about famous celebs we've never heard of :P hahaha

      Delete
    3. Hehe, we never had a TV in the first place. Although we do have a 75 year old radio (Or thereabouts... :P) which still gets the news just fine. And yeah, we do listen to it. Although the PM and his Pony tail has meant that I have stopped listening for awhile, I am getting soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sick of hearing that story... :P

    4. Yep, that ponytail story is a little bit...out there...
